Kia D, WeTalkRadio Network personality, is so much more than what you see on the surface. She is a survivor, a mother, and an optimistic individual, in spite of it all.
While receiving beauty and videography services from the industry leaders at Studio 21 Salons, located at 830 Mayfield Rd, in Grand Prairie, Texas, we spoke about her upcoming book, her struggles and her triumphs.
She is one heck of a woman, filled to the brim with positive energy, a happy spirit, and a smile that can light up any space, and tips for people of all walks of life who struggle with life's obstacles.
Kia's inspiration comes from the book of 2 Samuel in the bible. It speaks of a place called Notabar, an isolated, destitute place. She lived in her personal Notabar….and survived it.
After enduring sexual assault, teenage pregnancy, addictions and the burden of suicidal thoughts, she chose to win. She describes these hardships in her book, Runaway DJ.
“I ran,” said Kia. “I ran from responsibilities, from problems, I ran from life.”
The choice to leave depression, anxiety and multiple deep-seated emotional wounds behind was not an easy task. It took time, prayer, and laser focus. Her inner strength coupled with divine love helped her make it through.
“It was a gradual process,” said Kia. “The only thing that saved me was knowing that there was a God.”
Kia is a mother to two beautiful daughters. Her love for them helped push her decision to take control of her life and fight the suicidal thoughts.
“I didn't care about dying,” she said. “I was already dead, but I didn't want my daughters to be without me.”
After having several conversations with the “man upstairs”, she listened to God and began her life's work at We Talk Radio, on a mission to positively impact the lives of others.
“I realized that it wasn't about me,” she said. “My calling was to help others in their life. That's why WeTalkRadio Network is so important to me.”
Kia interviews different artists, entertainers and other influential locals on her show to bring light, laughter and insight to her listeners. She talks about everything from love relationships to spiritual growth during her shows. Find her on social media for upcoming show topics and times.
“Someone needs to hear the things we talk about on my show,” Kia said.
As Amiya Cleveland, Studio 21 Salon Co-owner and makeup artist, finished up her makeup, she spoke of the importance of personal care and branding. She's now understands its place and importance.
“I didn't realize that when people told me that I needed makeup what they meant,” she said.
After makeup, Honey George, Award-winning instructor and color specialist, worked hair magic on her. Kia described how Studio 21 Salon’s impacted her confidence.
“You gotta be the number one stunna in the room. That's what Studio 21 Salon does for me,” said Kia. “For anybody who is constantly in the public eye like me, it's a Lifestyle necessity.”

The strength of a woman…..
Kia D has recently been appointed to an administrative position at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters.
She describes her surprise in the moment of receiving the news about her new job. Delighted, prepared, and a little nervous, she humbly accepted this prestigious task.
“I didn't know what to think,” Kia D said. "I was completely shocked and very happy.”
The rest of the evening consisted of beautiful dresses, James Brown music and the filming of her Studio 21 EGO video. Everyone listened intently as she gave words of wisdom and encouragement to the entire staff.
Sometimes, in our lives, we get depressed, angry, anxious and sad. It is human nature. Some of us go through unspeakable events and are compelled to make tough life decisions. Kia D is a shining example of how to overcome, refocus and keep the faith.
